Shams Abu Dhabi on Al Reem Island is a landmark development within Abu Dhabi - UAE. The 70,000 district cooling scheme at Shams Abu Dhabi is currently being developed by Tabreed and Sorouh and is due to be completed in April 2010.
A highly innovative concept, Yas Island occupies a total land area of 2,500 hectares. The project offers a mixed use development predominantly residential which includes approximately 15 hotels, 350,000 m2 of retail space, a 156,000 m2 water park, a race track, a business area and golf courses. Tabreed is the district cooling provider for this pristine development, which will require a total cooling capacity of 600,000 TR by the end of 2014. Completed in October 2009, the Yas Island scheme has 9 district cooling plants, interconnected via a 70-kilometer piping distribution network, centrally controlled through an extensive fiber-optics grid. Currently, 1 plant room with a maximum capacity of 60,000 TR is operational.
Built alongside 5.2 million m2 of natural beach front, the spectacular Al Raha Beach development will provide a unique lifestyle through its world class residential, commercial, cultural, entertainment and public facilities. The project is designed to be served from a number of district cooling plants with interconnected chilled water piping network; Tabreed will provide the most energy efficient cooling solution to this unique development requiring 400,000 TR of cooling capacity by 2015. The grand scheme development plan consists of 8 district cooling plants with 2 interconnected distribution networks. Currently, Al Raha Beach east piping network and plants were completed in March 2010.

Tabreed is developing a scheme to provide district cooling services to the university’s new campus in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. The modern infrastructure is being erected over a 4 million square feet area at a cost of ?approximately AED 200 million. The new campus has a total capacity of 10,000 students and in addition to the university’s three existing colleges; it will also host the College of Engineering and the College of Media and Mass Communications. ?This campus will represent a milestone in the world of higher education through its ?exquisite design and modern educational facilities which include auditoriums and laboratories. Additionally, ?housing complexes, recreational and sports facilities (such as playgrounds and swimming pools), and ?service outlets (including restaurants and shops), as well as a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of 1000 will ?satisfy all student needs and provide an ideal educational atmosphere that incorporates the highest levels of ?academic services.? Currently providing 7,500 TR of cooling, the plant has a maximum capacity of 22,500 TR.
Located in Al Muroor District, Abu Dhabi, the scheme currently provides cooling to the following developments: Al Maamoura Tower (ALDAR’s Headquarters) and 2 residential towers. The facility's total cooling capacity is 22,500 refrigerating tons. Tabreed will provide cooling to Khalidiya Mall, in Abu Dhabi, which comprises of three floors and a semi-basement parking that can accommodate up to 600 cars. The mall will host a wide list of international and renowned brands and will also have a hypermarket, multiple cinemas, a food court with 2500 seating, world class amusement arcade, bowling etc. Khalidiya Mall has a total parking facility of approximately 2500 cars and is located at an easily commutable site in the densely populated Khalidiya neighborhood. The Khalidiya plant has a maximum capacity of 2,500 TR.
Marina Mall is a prestigious commercial center located in Abu Dhabi. After the success of the first phase of the project, the mall launched an expansion project and signed with Tabreed to provide the new expansion with district cooling services. Tabreed’s Marina Mall plant has a maximum capacity of 14,150 TR.
Located near Zayed Sports City, the scheme offers cooling services to the following clients: Zayed Military Hospital, Al Bateen Air Base, Diabetic Center, ID Building, Al Noor Hospital and the General Pension & Social Security Authority Building. Further customers across the Zayed Sports City area can be supplied to ultimately increase the facility's contracted capacity to over 22,500 refrigerating tons.
The Abu Dhabi Police Directorate signed a contract with Tabreed to supply cooling to their newly developed guards’ compound in Abu Dhabi, which hosts a number of buildings and facilities. Tabreed’s scheme has a maximum cooling capacity of 2,500 TR.
